This is one of the reasons that I have never bought a camera from a camera shop - certainly not over the counter. I do my homework and buy mail order. This way I avoid the boring situation described above. With the advent of the internet, more and more are doing it this way, and it can only mean that traditional camera shops will continue to thin out. As I don't use camera shops in the physical sense, I do not care. However, I don't think it is a good thing - after all there are still many reputable dealers (our very own Peter Blake from Camera-Direct in Sunny Brighton amongst them) whose existence is on the line. Fortunately for Peter and others, they have moved with the times and offer an online presence as well, and I wonder what the ratio of over-the-counter sales to internet sales is for them?
