I have the Sigma APO EX 70-200 f2.8, the Sigma EX Aspherical 14mm f/2.8,
and the Sigma EX DG Aspherical 24mm f/1.8 macro lenses. All have not
missed a beat, all are well built and focus fast and the 70-200 (with
HSM) has fast and quiet AF, although I normally use manual which is a
simple case of overriding the AF by turning the focus ring. None of these
lenses were cheap, none have fallen apart at all, and unless I can afford
brand-own versions of these focal lengths at a knock-down price, I will
be sticking with them for the time being.

It may be true that older Sigma lenses had a bad reputation, but the EX
series are far from that.
