It's definitely *possible* for electronic devices to accumulate enough
gunk from tobacco smoke to legitimately void the warranty. I've worked
as a tech on consumer electronics in the past and, like others, I've
seen it.

The issue here is that one of the parties is lying: Either Apple's
lying about how much contamination there is in the computer or the
customer is lying about the extent of the computer's exposure to
tobacco smoke.
