You shouldn't have to pull that much film out of the canister. Just enough to engage both sprockets. One of the times I miss-loaded I didn't pay attention to that, just pulled out the used film stuffed the leader of the new film into the 'Fingers' and slammed the back shut. Missed the picture I was trying to get and the next 15 minutes worth of shooting as well. (I became suspicious when I reached the 32'nd exposure of the 24 exposure roll).
