I use an iMac (2006 vintage) for my photo related work, and mostly IBM Thinkpads (now Lenovo) for much of my software development. Not that much difference in hardware reliability between those, but I have had much less problems with the MAC software that with the various Windows versions over the years :-) I am looking for a replacement for my aging iMac as well, looking at either the latest iMac (late 2012) or a setup with a macBook pro plu a Thunderbolt screen. The latter will give me two screens and monility when needed, but it is a bit pricey (over 3000 Euros for the combo). But it should me for another 6 or 7 years, so perhaps I should bite the bullet. My current iMac has been giving problems for the last couple of months, freezing up, programs loosing keyboard input, Timemachine crashing etc. I suspect the hardware is fine (albeit slow) but the OS would need a full re-install to get everything OK again ...
