OK, Just found a copy of my original Protel99SE, and I just installed it here on my old Win98 PIII 450Mhz Dell box that I use for email, and all seems OK here, and the new file I received opens properly here, as do a couple of .ddb files copied from the laptop which were problems there, so at least I am not dead in the water, and I don't have to worry about problems with bad files propigating to my xp box and it's Protel99SE installation.
I guess at this point, a fresh install on the laptop might just be the easiest way to fix it all. Once again, thanks again to all of you for all of your help.
