| EU applies sanctions and withdraws European observers from Zimbabwe The General Affairs Ministers of the 15 have unanimously decided formally to close the consultations between the EU and the Government of Zimbabwe, to impose sanctions against the country�s ruling elite and to withdraw all the European observers who had travelled to Harare to follow the electoral process leading up to the elections scheduled for 9 and 10 March.
