*My* argument of 'better'?!? Where in my previous posts did I use the word 'better'? If you had read my first post in the 'microsloth survey' thread before going all foam-in-the-mouth leanux-zilot on me, you'd find I agree with almost all of your points except the one that Linux is a "better" development platform. The free tools you get under Linux are *also available for Win2K*. Check out Cygwin and MinGW. You can develop and run both Windoze and X Window apps with these! Linux is the one with 'hell loads of standards': Qt, Gnome, Tk, KDE, linuxfb, fbdev, fbconsole, GGI, DRI, XFree, Motif, Windowmaker - many duplicating each other's functionality and waaaaay less mature than Win32 and DirectX. And let's not get started on all the different 'proprietary' distros and their packaging formats. Maybe you should have picked a more appropriate argument? =) Linux IS a tinkerer's dream OS, though. > linux always has support for 'open standards' -- the thing that > matters most for any competent system. Open standards matter VERY VERY MUCH. But saying it is what matters *most* indicates either ignorance or an overzealous fanatical attitude. Of what use is an open standard if it is lousily written and inadequate to meet your needs? _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
