Ah ok so you're saying Linux is BETTER than Windows and that's why 
Linux doesn't have to beat it. 

Only when used as a server. 

Desktop environment-wise, Linux has far more warts than the Windows 
GUI and lags considerably in convenience features. Moreover, the most 
important bash shell features like command line completion as well as 
the powerful GNU tools are now almost all available freely for Win32, 
greatly reducing Linux's lead in this area.

The most important ones are available as they tend to be the ones 
ported over first. GCC is of course one of them. So which tools did 
you have in mind anyway?
