Identifying German Windows XP as a common factor helps. Since I do not have German XP I will have to look through the AlienBBC and SC code. If you have other 3rd party plugins installed - can you check each of them to see if the Settings button on Plugins works/fails in the same way. Can you also check if any of the SC plugins fail ? I don't have access to a system at the moment but I think you cna get some debug info as follows. In Setting/Advanced/Logging you set logging os.paths to INFO and open a log window.
