Shocked, Zandra glanced briefly at Derek. Obviously something
was going on, past what she would've expected. She would have to
handle things far more carefully; apparently this was no simple
problem, to cause the young woman to act so terrorized. Lifting her
skirts, she tore out of the house with Derek after Julia.
Adding her voice to his, but more quietly and calmly, Zandra
called, "You can run all you like, but it's not going to do you any
good. The answer to your problems will not be found by running
blindly into the woods! I know you're upset, but if you calm down
and talk to us we can help you..."
As they continued to run after their quarry, she spoke
sardonically to Derek in between pants, beginning to lose her
breath. Her legs were much shorter than his and Julia's. "Derek,
now would be a... good time to loosen up those... restrictions you
put on me. If you... let me... I can... relieve us... both by... putting
her to... sleep or... immobilizing... her un... til we... can... catch...
up..."
