Derek stood and followed her to the door catching her arm and turning her
towards him. "I am sorry Megan," he told her. "You are a very special
woman. And I hope we can remain friends, but I will understand if that
isn't possible." He felt absolutely terrible about all of this. If he'd
only know he never would have started a relationship with her. "Jonathan
can arrange for someone to drive you home."
He watched as she decended the stairs. Then, taking a deep breath he headed
down them himself. Going to the first floor and searching for his mother.
He found her in the kitchen with Philip, Julia and Jonathan. This time he
did move to her side and gave the hug he meant to give her when he came in.
He kissed her cheek and then sat down in the chair beside her. "I see
you've met Julia," he said with a gentle smile.
