I'm afraid I disagree.  The idea of the standard configuration is to 
allow people sharing scripts to be able to assume a configuration, 
and I think an escape character is something that is should be part 
of an assumed configuration. I don't think its something someone 
should have to turn on and off, especially since setstring and ?
c...c? exist for strings with \s.

I understand that double backslashes are confusing in file names, 
which is why I did not use \ as the escape character originally.  
But there was a poll, \ was chosen be a wide margin, and one only 
has to use it if one wantw to use standard config and share scripts.

So I don't plan to do any more with work on features related to 
escape characters.
