I wrote the message in firefox with character set <EUC-KR> and the character appeared as ?. Now I'm writing this message with character encoding <iso-8859-1>. I hope this displays the character correctly. BTW, it's a bit odd to me atm that writing "alt-0167" gives the same letter in firefox regardless of the code pages. _______________________________________________________ > > By the way > I believe the differences of opinion, about whether > using \ is tricky, arise from our differences in talent > for coping with a syntax containing exceptions. > > For example when Bruce says "but you only need to use > the escape char in xxx situation, not in yyy situation" > he believes that makes it easier. > For average dummies like me, such variations actually > make it harder. > > Similarly Sean, who has proved his unusual ability in > so many messages, is surprised to hear me complain. > S > I'm quite happy with the StandardConfiguration, > S > and I guess that most newbies would be too > and > S> What mess? > S> I can't see any mess at all myself in StandardConfiguration. > > That's just human nature. > It's difficult to see why anybody should be challenged > by something which is so easy for you. Maybe it's because I'm relatively a newbie while you and Ted are longtime users of PP. I could only imagine how challenging it is to adopt hundreds of script files to the new StandardConfiguration, especially with "\" as an escape char. I thought it would be an easy job in a decent text editor, since it would be enough to replace "\" with "/", but I realized after that it would be disastrous if reg.dll and .path\script were heavily used. Anyway, to your surprise, I'm now glad that this thread ever appeared. We now have ESC(...,...)! If ESC(file.listfiles,_esc_) or alike works even though the escape char checkbox is cleared in advanced configuration, it might give a whole new way of using PP, I wonder. Thanks again to Bruce!
