I wish it were so.
When you uncheck Standard Config, you can set any character you
wish for Expression Follows, but the Esc char box only takes
a check for ' or a grey-check for \ or nothing for none.

Understood.
But if we had a wider choice for esc, I could start a sub-culture
of people who swap scripts using � for escape.

That's not how I remember it though...
perhaps it was another writer who wanted \
and failed to setup a drug test at the polling booth
lest sober voters make a sensible choice. ;-)

As a workaround for this complete dummy here: being allergic
to unwarranted complexity, I don't use the standard config.
I seldom download scripts. If I ever do, I'll edit it,
which will be a tedious job but not half as tedious as
using \ for escape throughout my own config.
