Is the Cd/DVD driver with 9.1 incompatible with powerbook 6x and 8x drives?
My 1400/G3/9.1 just refuses to run normally with either the as-is Apple 6x
drive I got it (hmm, inconclusive) or the known good 8x (strange).
It will boot with all extensions disabled but if anything is enabled at all
is seems to hang after a couple extensions (of any sort) or will boot but
verrrryyy slowly and never does load the desktop in any sort of reasonable
wait period.
The CD gets polled at bootup, it doesn't make a difference if there's a
disk in it or not. If I had started with powerbooks not Apple desktops I
think I would now hate SCSI. The desktop models, just plain WORK.
I put the latest Carbonlib on it, took off Ramdoubler, changed extension
order around of the CDROM driver and the sonnet extension (not that the
Sonnet extension is very useful on the PB model accel, unlike some of the
desktops where it was needed), tried minimal extension sets, whatever.
Maybe my CD interface slot is hosed.
