Yo Brian

I had the very same problem when I installed an internal Radeon CD-R
in place of the stock DVD reader
from Apple. I was able to fix it by upgrading to System 9.2 from
9.0.4 (via 9.1). Apparently the ROM was too
old to recognize the Radeon Drive, because I saw that drive listed in
the Authoring Support folder from 9.2.

I was having weird buggy things happening, like the cursor leaving
tracks all over the screen, so I reinstalled
9.1 OVER 9.2, saving the Authoring Support folder to transfer, and
have had no problems since. You COULD
try booting from a different System (even an older one) just to see
if the bug lies within System 9.1.

Still checking my mailbox every day to see if there's a parcel in it : )

Good luck with it.
