> Will the PB 3400 run 9.2? Can I install it from discs intended for an iMac? > Is there another way? TIA
The latest MSN messenger version runs fine on my 3400 with OS 9.1. Your problem is probably not having enough RAM to run any version of OS 9 properly. OS 9 is very responsive on a 3400, but only if you have a lot of RAM. What you need to do is either go back to 8.6 and use an alternative chat program if you intend to stay at 48 MB, or preferably, max out the RAM and keep OS 9 on the machine. As for 9.2, you can do it with the help of OS9Helper from http://www.os9helper.com. On the other hand, I tried this and would advise you that it is a waste of time. OS 9.2.2 didn't seem any faster and it was definitely less stable. What I ended up doing was keeping 9.1 and replacing its OpenTransport versions with the ones from 9.2, which did improve performance on the Internet. But seriously, consider the RAM upgrade if you use this 3400 a lot. You can get the 128MB card you need from an eBay vendor for $85; just search for "3400 RAM" and it will pop right up. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
