I've found that an S2 won't work when the 2 small batteries are flat. But it will work if you take them out & just use the AA's.

Where's the third battery? What;s the special adaptor?

! The S2 could in fact be used
with just the AA batteries (with the special adaptor in the lithium
battery holder - it didn't need the third battery a button cell to work)
