I agree but there are times when I want to drag files from the desktop and
have to go all the way to the left of the screen to the Trash - an awful
long walk in computer miles! <g> So, have both: a Trash on the dock and one
on the desktop. Can't be that difficult to sync them...I'm sure most people
have a Trash/bin under/near their desk and one in their kitchen. <g>

Thanks...just had a look. The new Finder option should really have been in
there in the first version. Windows users have enjoyed both a task bar and
an explorer that lets you view your drives in the left pane and your files
as lists or folders since 1995 (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Plenty of applications use the same way of navigating on the Mac already
(Photoshop, to name one) so the current Finder has never been a favourite of
mine. The current Finder windows go some way towards Windows way of
navigating but it looks like Apple chickened out when OS X was aired in case
they thought they were aping Windows too much. Looks like they've matured
enough not to worry what others think and do the logical thing: make life
easier for their users!

Expos seems good...I'm constantly looking under windows to find folders and
drives on my desktop (Dock is too loaded as it is with folders and icons).
If I could double-click on the desktop to reveal the desktop and then
double-click again to go back to previous view, I would buy the utility that
made it possible - even at the risk of an unstable OS...<g> Well, not really
but the shortcut SHOULD be there as it's so obviously handy.
