Can I make a plea for a slightly more relaxed touch in terms of list
moderation?
In the light of the list mom's rejection of Karls topic relating to
keyword searchable web pages, I decided to review the list guidelines
regarding what is, and is not, considered to be 'on topic'.
I quote:
Discussion Topics
Everyone is encouraged to discuss applications, technologies, wish
lists, problems, success stories, and things that your organisation can
offer.
Some of the possible topics for discussion:-
Digital capture
Hardware and techniques
Scanning (including the suitability of original recording materials)
Finished Outputs and proofs
Bureaux
Software and Hardware
Transportable media and electronic transmission
Colour technology
Client-Agency-Artist-Repro relationships
unquote

I find it difficult to accept that web based image display, retrieval
and transmission of images can be anything but 'on topic' for this list
and, indeed, would argue that several of the areas defined above clearly
have relevance in relation to web imagery. Photoshop itself has moved
ever onwards and upwards in providing web friendly facilities. Any
photographer involved in digital work ignores the web at their peril.

Denying discussion of web based issues here is somewhat akin to telling
a wedding photography list that they mustnt discuss mounting, finishing
and display or negative retrieval systems.

It would not have been difficult to let the topic breathe for a while to
see what goodies of common value emerged.
All, as ever. IMHO, of course.
