I think Bob is entirely right in what he says as Calumet acquired the asset base of Leeds. The MD of Calumet is Andy Morris, though I did slightly wince when I read in a recent article about him in the BJP that he "wants to turn Calumet into the PC World of the professional photo industry".
You might also like to point out to the calumet person that refused liability, that the current Calumet sales flyer carries both the Calumet and leeds logos in the section entitled "Shopping with Calumet & Leeds is easy"!!

Usually when a company merges with another one they take on ALL the assets and liabilities under the joint or new ownership. This applies especially to employee rights like pensions and redundancy. From what I have read neither company was in financial difficulties so they cannot quote bankruptcy at you.
I would put a call and email through to whoever is the new MD. Point out that you are a subscriber to newsgroups of hundreds of professional photographers and that your treatment will be broadcast. When the BJP Forum is up and running again you could post your Calumet experience there too.
