8x! Very tempting, maybe I will get one of these and get the LaCie repaired
and sell it. This way I can turn things to advantage. Always looking for an
excuse to upgrade.

Whilst I cannot help with you LaCie problem, I would suggest you take a look
at the new Plextor PX-708A (from MISCO or DABS) as an alternative rewriter.

This is my first DVD ReWriter and I am absolutely 'blown-away' by it's
performance.

The only 8x on the market, it will write at that speed (effective 10Mb per
sec!) on some 4x DVD+R disks.
That equates to a disk full of data (4.7Gb) in about 10 minutes.

I have been using it for a few days and have had not problems at all either
with install or re-reading the image files.
