I've just been experimenting with the raw files from a 1Ds and using the

say compared with other interpolation methods?
I've tried a couple of basic tests and the Adobe raw converter seems to give a slightly better interpolation than stair interpolation (at 10 % incs...could try 5% but it would take a while!). The difference is so slight and I doubt if it would make any difference if going to print. I've also used the Extensis Pixl Smart software (plug in) enlarged to the same size as the maximum size in Adobe raw (CS) and once again, no visible difference when viewed.
... I now have a 1Ds and have just shot a job
before Christmas where the 31mb converted raw tiff where cropped square and
then interpolated to 75mb no problem.
As for how far can you interpolate, we have just been working on some pics for a forthcoming exhibition, the raw file from a D1X interpolated to the maximum in Adobe raw (all done in 16 bit + manipulations) and then increased to the final size using the Extensis software, output in 8 bit, 300dpi...the print is 4 foot long...I'm amazed by the quality! (from approx 16mb to 180mb).
I hope this helps
Happy New Year
