Hi
I am a long time lurker on this list and have put my head above the parapet once or twice but will quickly reintroduce myself.
I photograph mostly food and lifestyle stuff for magazines, pr and design etc. Am obliged for the most part to shoot film as the mags I work for are even now not geared up for digital, but supply digital files to other sorts of clients not quite so in thrall to their production departments.
I have just bought an Epson 4870 to scan 6x7 trannies tempted by the digital ICE.
I installed the Epson software as instructed but tried my first scans with my familiar Vuescan as I had heard the Epson software was very slow. Vuescan seemed to work fine until I looked at the resulting scan and found where ICE had done its stuff I had two marks in the scan for each piece of dust - a dark and a light mark a few pixels apart - looking like a dropped shadow. I then tried the Epson software instead which although the ICE worked really well took about an hour to scan a tranny at 2000dpi (giving a 60mb scan which is what the client wanted).
I tried to go back to Vuescan but now Vuescan will not recognise the scanner. I have been on to the Vuescan site and emailed Ed Hamrick who gave me the same advice as the site to disable the Epson software which I have done, but it makes absolutely no difference and I can simply no more access the scanner with Vuescan.
I am on Mac OS 10.3.3 and Vuescan 7.6.82.
Anyone any suggestions?
