The generic profiles may well provide 'acceptable' results when used with
original equipment (OE) consumables, but what Jack L is talking about is
extending the capabilities of any given work-flow and managing the results
from start to finish so that every step is predictable AND controllable.
This is the nature of 'high end'. If the set-up you have works for you, then
fine, but this forum is about pushing to get the absolute best out of the
equipment and resources available and I have to say that calibration and
profiling of equipment are a given (or should be!) before any other elements
are taken into account.

But we are talking about BOTH input and output profiles here

It would seem that you have a closed-loop system where your screen is set up
to match your printed output, which is acceptable only if none of your work
ever makes it to another monitor or output device, but a recipe for disaster
if you are involved in providing image files for use by others
