Sure you can. I print everyday from a G4 PowerBook to an Epson 9600. However usually there's a Cinema Display hooked to the Powerbook. It makes the process of getting that good print MUCH easier, faster and predictable than when working on the PowerBook alone. I wish you could sit here and see the difference as I drag an image from the Cinema Display to the PowerBook display. Both are hardware calibrated with EyeOne and BasICColor Display but the quality of the displayed image is nowhere near identical... and the Powerbook displayed image will vary wildly depending on the angle of viewing the screen... not so with the Cinema Display.
