If, within your own working circle you obtain results that satisfy your requirements then no one has cause to criticise or comment. If you introduce your files to an output device outside of your control,unless you have prepared your files to a known standard you will be unlikely to see the results you require. profiling to known standards gives us all the opportunity to produce consistent results acceptable to a wide variety of clients for a variety of uses.
It is rather like writing a letter with spelling errors,people may be able to read and understand it but it will not look right to anyone but the person that wrote it.
