The swabs are "Sensor Swab", and the purified methanol is "Eclipse", both are made by Photographic Solution, Buzzards Bay, MA 02532, (508)759-2322, Web Site and local retailers at www.photosol.com.

The newest Sensor Swab dedicated to the full sized sensors had a plastic blade inside which cleans the edges and corners much more efficiently than the former one (designed like an "ear swab"). I didn't succeed to get absolute clean corner and edges but I think I'll be able to perform this in the future when I'll be a more experienced sensor cleaner :-)

Warning: only use a Sensor Swab with Eclipse because I think you could dissolve the plastic blade and damage the sensor.

The 1Ds sensor attract more dust than the others because it needs to be electrically charged to operate and by the way attract the dust instead of most of the other sensor whose produce an electric signal when photons hit them.

I don't think than switching off the camera is helpful because the sensor is protected by the shutter and dust is attracted by the sensor during the exposure time. This is why it's very important to clean the sensor using the recommended Canon procedure, instead of using the bulb exposure.

All the best.

I use sterile swabs, clean methanol, and lint
free high tech glass cloths and have achieved almost spec free pictures
even in the corners. I am very careful when I change lenses, always
switching the camera off and doing the change very quickly.
