It's an issue with full frame sensors. With digital cameras with smaller chips the AA filter, or whatever is infront of the chip, is oversised so dust a crud can be swept to the side and be clear of the capture area. Full frame chips don't have this extra area. So if any dust is left on the edge after cleaning it is in the capture area. Ian, I should have made it clear that those that I spoke with weren't implying that the 14n isn't susceptible to dust - it is - merely that the design of the sensor makes it possible to clean perfectly, while the design of the 1ds (but not the design of the 1d) does not.
