The lack of a watering hole (without having to drive or walk) was a slight
inconvenience to me, even though I'm local. We managed to get sizable groups
to go to places nearby pretty easily, although the groups might have been a
bit larger if no driving was required. Craig, Bo and I even went out for a
bucket of beers at a really cool blues joint after dinner Saturday night,
and didn't discuss word one of technology!

Exactly. That's why the lack of a central 'watering hole' hangout
was the most serious shortcoming. Even if you weren't a drinker,
being able to hang out together and socialize in the evening hours is
valuable, and that represents some of my best memories at conferences.
