Good. Serious network diagnostic tools should help resolve these
problems. Right now, we're really at the "turn it off and back on"
stage.
Website host service reports that our IP is being blocked because we are
exceeding the server's concurrent connection limit. They say the server
reported 208 concurrent connections from our IP address at some point
yesterday afternoon. They temporarily released the block but it has
recurred a couple of times since then.
They haven't said what the limit is, but they are, IMO, imposing an
unrealistically low concurrent connection limit on a public website. There
are well over 100 people using our internet connection and many of them may
have an interest in visiting this website since it has general
applicability to much of the work we do here. I think what they really want
to do is to impose a limit on the number of people who can simultaneously
access the private, task specific, data services hosted on their domain.
That being said, it does seem unlikely that in the ordinary course of
business we would have over 200 people connecting to their site. It may or
may not depend on definition of "connection": are there not some
circumstances under which software enhances the total bandwidth of an
instance of communication between two internet nodes by means of multiple
connections?
Our anti-malware system is not reporting any unsual traffic, and it has so
far been very good at catching things that generate such traffic.
Can anyone suggest possible causes for this?
Thanks.
