Well it happened once here with a qantas jet on approach. Once is more than enough plus there have been multiple other attempts. The 12month jail sentence sent a message to the massed loons.

I agree that A) it's a stupid practice that should be illegal, simply to discourage idiots from shining lasers into the sky. (Did I mention that you can see little dots on the clouds if you shine your pointer into the air?) B) trying to blind anyone with a laser should be a criminal act. Having said that, I still can't believe it happens that often, but I'm very willing to admit I'm wrong.
