No, mid in this context means middle of net. I think one of the columns can
have an M to indicate a mid pad. 

Basically there is no need to test such pads. If you test a net for
continuity from end to end then you can assume other pads on the net are
connected as long as they are not on stubs. Can save a lot of probes or
nails so it is quite important. 

I don't know if it is possible to just leave such pads out of a D-356
netlist - if so then maybe Protel is doing this but doesn't seem to get it
right.
