I do not recommend buying LCD monitors for CAD unless physical desk space
or appearance of total coolness is truly an issue. That price is pretty
nice, I just verified it ($529 less $20 rebate).

The resolution of that LCD, however, is 1280x1024. In dual monitor mode,
that will be 2560x1024, or 2.6 megapixels. Dual 19 or 21 inch CRT monitors
which can do 1600x1200 will provide over 3.8 megapixels. While, other
things being equal, LCDs would be preferable (perhaps one should consider
the chiropractic bills), the resolution is not yet as good as we would
want, and the price is considerably more. Costco is selling a 19 inch
Sylvania monitor which will do 1600x1200 at 77 Hz, for $200.

I would consider it essential to provide CAD employees dual monitors, and
with CRTs this should be clearly affordable. LCDs, however, are catching up
fast, so I'd want a fast amortization of the expense. A 1$ improvement in
productivity would translate to $100 per year for every $10,000 of employee
expense (which is substantially higher than what the employee is paid). And
I'd think that productivity could improve substantially more than one percent.
