Thanks for the tip, but it doesn't make any difference. Maven sims 
at the same speed - ie about 8 mins for a 1000-iteration sim with 10 
words in the kibitzer - regardless of the compatibility setting. It 
was 2-3 times that fast under ME. 

I use the old Maven with the simming capability and the SOWPODS 
wordlist (being a UK player, like several others on this list).

As reported previously, Quackle is now slightly faster than Maven, 
but not a lot. Actually, I've just discovered that Quackle is now 
coming up with a blank board instead of our favourite pattern, which 
I saved and used several times.
