We are each different indeed...typical day consists of pot of coffee, 6 diet cokes, 12-18 bud lights, 16 oz water.

I also take zero medications for pain/spasms, etc. I use external leg bag, condom cath. Hope you feel better, whatever works for you I say do it. For over a year I have been awakened by bladder pain, a burning, stinging, stabbing pain that caused headache and cold sweats. My nose and eyes were also plastered shut so bad, I dreaded morning time. Now, for the last five days, I have awoken pain and sweat free. I made two changes. 1) I take a single benadryl at bedtime. 2) I eliminated the two diet Mountain Dews that I drank just about every day. I suspect the Dews were the main villain. The lesson learned -- quad bladders and soda pop are a bad combination. Yes they are. There are going to be "things" in the culture but they can tell if there is an infection starting. Your body is trying to reject the rubber tube just like it does with heart or lung transplant. Please do not wait to get it checked. AD & any infection can be deadly. Hope I don't have to go through this every time it's changed. They did irrigate, that hurt like hell too. They told me the only time I can be checked for a UTI is immediately after the new tube is placed. Is this what anyone else has been told? They did take a sample to culture, results on Monday. Thank you for the replies. On Thu, Nov 8, 2012 at 6:58 PM, Quadius <[email protected]> wrote: I have to agree with Dave. When they changed your catheter did they irrigate to make sure that everything is working okay? Also it is important that they insert the catheter all the way in. It's easier than you would think to have the catheter partway in. I had this happen once in the pain was horrific and I did experience AD. In order to make sure it's in right, they should stop once the catheter reaches the back of the bladder. Insert some fluid into the balloon and then lightly pull on the catheter to make sure it moves in and out a little bit. Quadius PS I did experience some pain off and on when I had mine changed, but the only times I ever remember having AD involved the catheter not being in all the way and once they put in a silicone catheter. About four or five times, something was wrong. In one case, the pain was so terrible I needed to go to the hospital. Possibly the procedure was done incorrectly. Possibly the new catheter is blocked or pinched. This might be a serious situation. Call your nurse now. Insist that another catheter be installed. In an emergency, you can also try flushing the catheter using a mild solution of distilled water and vinegar. Expected some AD, but not this long/bad. How do you all treat/deal with this? You might want to try to increase the amount of fluid in the ball. If it's a 5 mL Foley, you can put up to 10 mL without too much problem. I used to use around eight, because if I used anything lower it might leak a little. Hopefully this helps you out. You can also wear a drain sponge around the SP. Quadius
