Interesting. According to your logic, by extension, use of a bow and arrow should have the same relative high frequency of occurrence. I don't know the exact counts, but the implication is that there should be many more homicides by bow and arrow...

It's all about usage and availability.

Let me repeat that so you know what I mean - a gun is NOT like a knife.

A gun provides a level of dissociation between the user of the gun and the victim that is orders of magnitude different to that provided by a knife.

With a knife [or any other instrument which may be used to kill] you are physically much more in tune with the act of murder than a gun. I know. I've fired rifles at targets and I've used knives to slaughter sheep.

Why then are there not millions of homicides with knives? There are millions and millions in circulation, aren't there?

It's because you would be involved with the murder physically.

No. That's not a valid argument I'm sorry. No offence, but it's not valid.

Why does my possession of a lethal weapon equal killing? I assume you possess a knife. How does that possession equal killing? I am constantly amazed by the number of folk who simply equate possession of potential lethal force (for self and family protection) with killing. 'Peace through Strength' seems a viable and reasonable tenet to me... A gun, like a knife is simply a tool that MAY be used for a lethal purpose. (Of course it is designed to kill. But bringing home a rabbit or deer is simply using the tool as it was designed.)

I have a problem with the whole foundaion of this argument - that we somehow have a right to use lethal force.
I wonder how this equates to a new testament mindset.
I don't see Jesus condoning or using lethal force.
I see Jesus ordering me to love, to be as one and to turn the other cheek.

My position is that I would not ever use lethal force. Surely that's a saner position than saying "I will..."
But that position has not been tested. Who knows under what provication I might.

Show my how killing lines up with Jesus' teaching in the New Testament?

Victor.
