My comment to this one is We need to have the National Office come up with Guide lines for qualification like they did for the swimming award. When I was a Ranger boy. The Ranger manual said that I had to pass the Red Cross Swimming course. Where I lived there was no swimming courses given by the red cross I learned at the pool on my own with my parents help. Today the Ranger Manual has specific tasks to complete. I think we need that for allot of the awards. I have a commander that was a Weapons qualifier in the Navy. He taught people to shoot all sorts of weapons. If he had the information in his manual for what the NRA was looking for to Qual for the Shooting awards in Rangers he could teach it for the boys.

The Red Cross in Springfield, MO is getting 35.00 per boy to teach them
Red Cross. Why pay that when we have 4 Nurses in our Church that can
teach first aid and CPR to our Rangers.
You said the Red Cross doesn't offer a "First Aid Course" anymore its
called Community something. The Leaders manual says on Page 153 to
Complete the American Red Cross Standard First Aid Course. Hence the
problem. Times have changed to a point the manual is not revelent on
this one point. I know what you mean about "but my commander said" in
this case his commander may have turned to the manual and it didn't have
the answer. Next best option is go to the person who writes the manual
and ask them. We did.
Do you have a old standard first aid course that you could come and teach
about 30 Rangers? If not then come see us at Pow Wow and watch out for
the Cannon...grin! I understand really. I hope you do as well.
