There are many churches that are not "Pentecostal" but believe in the gifts
of the Spirit. Come to our church and you would be hard pressed to know the
difference. Being filled with the spirit does not belong to the A/G or
Pentecostal churches alone. It belongs to everyone. Granted, some
denominations feel that it was only for the old testament but it is for
todays church also. We go to a Christian Reform church and the gifts are
evident. You dont see people going around praying in tongues but there are
spirit filled people everywhere in the church. We have several with A/G
backgrounds including our family. The church is alive and we get a good
balance. Sometimes the emphasis is placed on the "show" ( for lack of a
better term) of speaking in tongues outloud. Im not saying that is bad it's
not. It is more for the individual who is doing the praying than for the
whole body. Like I said in an earlier post, the church needs to balance
it''s teaching. I learned more in a few weeks of our membership class than I
did in over 40 years of Sunday school and church at an A/G church. Yes, we
were a spirit filled church where tongues were a normal part of service but
using a food analogy, it was all desert and not much main course. You need
both.
