Well, I happen to like the Phil fw hub on my Sam Hillborne. Will admit that it was done (a) because it was something I wanted, having lusted after them in the 1980's, and (b) got an extremely good deal on it.
Would I do it again? Probably not. The rest of my bikes have cassettes and am quite happy with them. Although am thinking that in a few years the availability of 8 and 9 speed cassettes might be as limited as 7 speed freewheels are currently. (Just received a Shimanopore freewheel today from Rivendell. As backup.) Also, while I like the Shimano freewheel removal system, never did like the SunTour version. Used to strip them on a regular basis. The four pronger was better, but still not great. Oh, and while quill stems are just fine, don't have any problems with a threadless system. Except they may be more prone to tinkering.
