You'd think. What we're seeing goes far beyond injuries/steroids or
anything of that ilk. He just isn't connecting with the baseball. It's a
total head-scratcher.

It's the hitter's version of Steve Blass Disease. Maybe he should pull a
reverse Rick Ankiel and try pitching.

I'm just at the point I can't fathom what has happened to him. He got
healthy (reportedly) and now he is, quite literally, the worst hitting
non-pitcher in baseball. That just doesn't happen. I'm at a loss ... he
has to rebound, at least to a certain point, doesn't he?

I'm sure that a nice stint on the disabled list will also serve the
purpose of freeing up Papi's spot.

Ray, get back to the realm of possibility. There is a zero
percent chance that Smoltz will be traded before he gets to the majors
and shows he can still pitch. And if he's successful, there's a zero
percent chance he's used as a sweetener to take Papi off our hands.

If Papi can't shake this, there's a chance that the Sox will eat
his contract, but they're not going to pay another team for the
privilege.

THAT was classless.

As for Smoltz, who cares if he wanted to be a trade chit. As
they told Crash Davis, "You get to come to the ballpark each day and get
paid for doing it."

classless way of handling him -- he didn't agree to come to Boston as a
trade chit.
