Check with your local ham clubs membership persons and the local TVI committees and see if they have a contact name and number at the cable company. I've seen several situations where one or more of the cable TV company engineering staff are hams. A non-confrontational chat with a field tech and fellow ham at a ham club meeting might get a bit more co-operation than a phone call to the engineering manager during business hours... Just make sure that your own cable TV installation in your house is absolutely perfect before you call the cable TV outfit - use double shielded (i..e RG6, RG-11, I forget which one) from the pole drop cable to the cable box, as the jumpers between the cable box and the VCR and again between the VCR and the TV, etc.... make sure that there are no unterminated-but-live outlets, etc... A quick sniffer can be made easily - just borrow a handheld scanner that can listen in AM mode to 145.25 and in wide FM mode to 149.75 and walk around your property. In other words don't give the cable TV guys ANY reason to say it's your fault. And have an up-to-date extra copy of the relevant FCC rules handy - to give to the cable TV guy when he show up - if he'snot a ham he will probably have no concept that his channel 18 is overlapping with 2m. I've seen a couple of TV-channel-to-megahertz charts around the internet and one of those included with the FCC rules copy might be useful. I know that the ARRL has one - might want to contact Ed Hare W1RFI at the league ([EMAIL PROTECTED] - not arrl.net). Be familiar with the FCC rules as they apply to the cable companies before you call the cable company - the financial penalties imposed on the cable companies by the FCC for leaks are pretty severe. So DON'T call the FCC except as a very last resort. You will probably make several enemies at the cable co. And the 145.25 frequency is one of the last ones allocated by most coordination groups just because of the channel 18 problem.
