The trouble with an option like is that SBS doesn't assign an album artist role except when there is specifically an ALBUMARTIST tag. I've always maintained that it would be wise to do this. My own tagging standard is to tag all albums with an ALBUMARTIST, even if it duplicates the ARTIST. I would just as soon have the ability to browse _either_ Artists or Album Artists, which is how Rockbox does it. In fact, now that onebrowser is incorporated into 7.6 it should be fairly easy to implement additional browse modes, such as browse Album Artists, Composers, Conductors. > No special handling required for "Various Artists" when browsing, the > special logic is only needed during scanning. The "Various Artists" > entry would as you suggest be sorted together with all other artists. What about the 'Various Artists' that is _not_ from an ALBUMARTIST tag - the special one that is had by COMPILATION=1 tags or by the logic that determines compilation albums? I think ideally they would be one and the same in the contributors table. That is, both albums tagged with ALBUMARTIST=Various Artists and those determined to be compilations would be grouped under 'Various Artists'. However, a problem arises if you want to be able to change the name in the options, as SBS permits, because then they would need to be two distinct artists. The complication to treating it like any other artist is when you want to place the VA artist at the beginning of the artists list instead of allowing it to naturally sort under V. I rather like having it at the top, as it's a quick way to find all compilations, although having it under V wouldn't be terrible. -- JJZolx ------------------------------------------------------------------------ JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88072 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
