Sounds like you agree with my suggested enhancement. When browsing artists, only show a list of artist names, which would show Various Artist without any special logic that worries about compilations or not. i.e. Various Artists appearing under V, like any normal artist, and containing any album by Various Artists, irrespective of whether compilation tags caused album artist to be created, or the user tagged with that as the album artist.
For people who want to find a list of compilations, provide a Browse Compilations. This would be filtering to only show albums with compilation=1. I do not like tagging everything with an album artist tag - more maintenance on tagging, but also affects navigation to artists' albums from songs. e.g. if you have album artist tags, you have track artist roles, not normal artist roles. If you click on a track artist name, it shows only albums where the artist is a track artist. If you don't have album artist tags, you have normal artist roles, and clicking on one of these from a song will show all of the albums by that artist (normal albums, compilations, guest appearances, things he's composed or conducted or band/orchestra). You also end up with more rows in the DB tables (wonder if it affects scan times and browsing performance)? _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
