We are in S scale because it is better and we have always known that
it is the ideal size. There was a thread on Trains.com about why
everyone was not in HO. The predominant answer was "I tried HO but
(place your minority scale here) was better". Most HO scalers
are "bad" HI-Railers anyway and don't know why they model in HO other
than it is easy.

I bounced around because there was no small S scale steam. Thanks,
SHS, there is finally a 2-8-0. What is the facination with Big Boys
anyway? HO has four or five and probably multipling right now. There
is only one real HO 2-8-0 even though all the polls show a 2-8-0 is
the most desirable model and one ten wheeler number two on the polls.

If I had remained focused I would not have had my fur grass article
published in Railroad Model Craftsman. I got that gig because I was
modeling 1/4 narrow gauge at the time the same as the editor. My
initial grass article appeared on my website and a friend of the
editor, Bill Shaumburg, saw the web article. Bill needed tall
California grass also so Bill asked me to write an article.

That has led to four more articles being published in RMC. So focus
is not the greatest thing all the time. People eventually get to
where they are going when the right item comes around.

On30 had the heft of S scale but once I started the scenery on the
layout 1/4 scale required too many layers of texture to be realistic.
The limited number of "golden age" On30 equipment doomed any
operating possibilities. Also it wasn't S scale.
