(LOL. I like that.)

Lots of trurth to that. I know I don't have the time to devote to two
different themes. Just this week, I put in 61 hours in the hot cabs of
various Alco's earning a living. Once home I don't have a lot of oompah to
work at a hobby bench or layout. (That will change as the weather cools,
perhaps.)

So... IF (and that's an interesting word)... I absolutely, positively, HAVE
to have a layout built to high degree of completion. Then I need to "FOCUS",
as you put it.

You also were astute to realize that my two interests cannot be merged in a
congruent fashion. It will need to be one or the other.

Part of what is driving me to settle/find a solution for this is my lack of
time. I have the gut feeling that whatever I pursue really needs a goodly
supply of RTR stuff that requires minimum attention (weathering) before it
can be placed into service.

I'm not going to get that in 1890s Colo NG, nor am I actually going to get
it in S scale UNLESS I make myself happy with what little RTR there is
available. (Goodbye KC Terminal SW's/S2's, goodbye Frisco GP7's, Mopac
RS3's... you get the idea.)

Perhaps part of my quandery is that I still "think" like a modeler... when
in reality I ceased being a genuine "modeler" some time ago.

Ah, the tangled webs we weave.

Perhaps if the lion's share of the equipment needed for "X" theme could be
had in RTR, that frees up my time/energy for the things you can't purchase
RTR: The layout.

> Find something you like and STICK TO IT!

Great idea... UNLESS one is stuck liking a couple of "somethings". <g>

It has been correctly mentioned that "focus" and "sticking to it", etc, is
only important IF you want an operating layout in a high state of
completion.

I THINK I would still like a nice layout... but when I start looking at
piles of parts, or project engines/rollingstock that need heavy
modification... my bravado begins to falter.

So, yes Bill... you bring up some very valid points. I agree with them.
Unfortunately, in my case, I'm having to redfine just what effort I'm
actually WILLING to exert in order to have some type of layout.

By the way, what is the Gray Team and an SPF? Enlighten me, oh Master
S-Head.
