Hi Andre, Thinking about it a bit more I've decided it doesn't
matter if one loses focus for a while, the side trips are part of the
fun and you don't HAFTA build a layout to enjoy all the models. I
still have my childhood HO stuff in a display cabinet although I'll
never run it again and as I sell off most of my O scale stuff I've
been keeping my favorites for a wall display, I recently got a few
pieces of N scale for the challenge of working on the tiny trains, and
if I ever move out of S scale at least I'll have some more unique
models to add to my wall! All the various scales and eras have been
great learning experiences so were worth the trouble just for that
aspect, it's easier to know what you really like if you've tried
everything! Sometimes you gotta just dig into the tripe and see if you
can keep it down!!
Now if you want to model something like the KCT in S scale why not
start with one module of one industrial scene and see how it works
out? If you can fit a passing track and a couple of spurs on the board
you can run a loco and spot some cars. If you like the way it feels
then add some buildings and scenery when in the mood and if it ever
gets finished build an adjacent module and continue around the room at
a leisurely pace. Don't worry too much about the specific locos
availabe cause if you get a railroad running you can always find
decals or have them made for a KCT switcher or whatever. If you don't
get a layout built till you retire it's no big deal, you will have
built skills till then that will make the layout a lot better when it
finally happens!!....Regards, Dave Branum
