The late Gene Fletcher had an idea for a scrap yard using an AF
Magnetic Crane to load and unload cars with scrap iron. I don't think
he finished the project but the idea does have possibilities. It
could be scalerized to look presentable - maybe motorized to run back
and forth on a set of rails.

Hi,

I think that is a good idea. IMHO, the operation of the crane could
be improved with the use a separate button to energize/de-energize
the magnet. Also, I want to swap out the motor for a DC can so I can
control the direction without a reverse unit. That magnet & hook
looks very large, so I'm also wondering if smaller ones could be made
up by the average hobbyist at home - certainly the hook or some other
method of fastening the string could. I'm thinking the base of the
crane should be hidden in dirt, weeds, etc. There could probably be
other improvements to make it look more to scale as well.
