Greetings:

I use the SHS 1295 couplers on all my PRS cars. I mount them with
#080 screws - drill and tap the holes. When using the PRS trucks
(which I like very much BTW), they are a perfect fit - I rarely have
to shim a car.

With the first run, there was an issue with the coupler locking into
the open position especially on longer trains. My 50 car PFE train
would automatically divide into sections, even though there were no
sections of the train on the timetable (yuck, yuck – yes, bad joke I
know). This was fixed by filing and graphite lubrication of the
coupler parts - a doable but tedious fix.

It appears that this problem has been fixed since I have had no issues
with my latest installations.

I will use 802s if a 1295 will not fit, though I hate the slack action
of the Kadee's. It is very noticeable on longer trains - the train
looks like a giant accordion going in and out, especially traversing
hills. On my "to do someday before I die" list will be the task of
taking the 802's apart and placing inserts in the springs.

As an operator, I find the Sargents performance too limiting.

Just another perspective, YMMV
